Education in Cape Coral

Instead of redrawing school boundaries yearly and shifting students to other schools to accommodate growth, the Lee County school district uses school zones and an open enrollment system.

Parents and guardians can rank schools of their choice based on where they live, and they can rest assured that their students will attend the same school through the highest grade level offered.

There are three large zones in Lee County: East, West, and South.

Lee County School District Subzones

The school zones are further divided into subzones, allowing parents and guardians to choose schools closer to their homes and allowing the school district to effectively manage transportation needs.

Parents and guardians can base their school choices on the following criteria:

  • Subzone 1 residents can choose schools closest to their home within Subzone 1 or 2
  • Subzone 2 residents can choose schools closest to their home within Subzone 2, and
  • Subzone 3 residents can choose schools closest to their home within Subzone 2 or 3.

Refer to Lee County school district’s most recent zoning map for an overview of how Lee County is distributed.

Programs at Lee County Schools

Many schools in the Lee County district have a wide variety of academic programs available to students, including arts, technology, and comprehensive programs. Some of the other school distinctions include:

  • International Baccalaureate
  • Cambridge Program
  • Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM)
  • Foreign Language

Check with the individual schools to find out more information about what kinds of programs are offered and whether the school operates under a uniform clothing policy.

Cape Coral, FL Area Residents

The West Zone is Cape Coral’s designated Lee County school zone. Use the map below or click here to find locations of elementary, middle, and high schools in the Cape Coral area.

Residents on the barrier islands like Pine Island are not considered part of the school choice zones and do not participate in the school choice process. Students on the barrier islands instead can apply for individual zone schools and multi-zone magnet schools.

New Residents of Cape Coral

Parents and guardians who are new to the Cape Coral area should visit the Cape Coral Student Assignment Office to register their students for the appropriate school. Visit the Lee County school assignment registration page or frequently asked questions for more information.
